Gifted Young Violists Course

Introduction

This course has been divided into 3 stages - grade 1 to 5 course, grade 6 to 8 course and diploma course.

Students are required to sit for internal examinations conducted half-yearly to monitor the student’s progress and to take ABRSM examinations.

Students of Grade 6-8 and Diploma classes are required to perform in public concerts and participate in national or international competitions. The Diploma classes are tailored to individual potential and emphasise on concert and competition training.

Each student is required to perform on stage at least twice per semester at masterclasses. This strengthens the child’s confidence in concert performance which also provides a platform for students, parents and teachers to share their expectations and opinions, in a combined effort to improve teaching quality.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the respective course, students will attain:

  • Grade 1 to 5 course – Students will successfully pass ABRSM Grade 5 examinations around 9 years old.
  • Grade 6 to 8 course – Students will successfully pass ABRSM Grade 8 examinations before 13 years old.
  • Diploma course – Students will successfully obtain two levels of Diploma certificates around 16 years old.

Course Schedule

The sessions are held per semester from Jan to May or from Jul to Nov.

  • Practical, once in a weekend, 20 lessons per semester.
  • Theory/Aural, once in a weekend, 20 lessons per semester.

There are 2 masterclasses and 2 studioclasses per semester.

Diploma Course For students aged 13-15 years and had passed Violin/Viola ABRSM Grade 8 certificate in Practical.

Practical Fees are charged according to the teacher’s requirements
and are dependent on the different levels of Diploma.

Registration Fees

  • Registration fee is $32.10, to be paid upon passing the audition.
  • This fee is waived for the second and subsequent course registration.

One semester covers 5.5 months. Fees are payable by semester and cover 20 practical lessons, 20 theory/aural lessons, as well as masterclasses, and internal examinations.
Any Junior Music student who takes two different instruments need only attend one theory class.

Payment Terms

  • Payment via cheque and cashier's order should be crossed and made payable to the "Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts". Please write your name, NRIC/passport number and contact number on the reverse side of the cheque/cashier's order.
  • Payment of fees should be made prior to the commencement of each term or semester as stipulated in the fee structure.

Penalty

  • If payment is not made in full by the due date, a penalty charge will be assessed at S$15.00 per month.

Refund of Fees

  • Registration Fee is non-refundable.
  • Fees are only refundable under the following conditions:
    1. Full refund if the class is unable to proceed due to unforeseen circumstances
    2. After deducting S$53.50 if withdrawal is made within 14 days before the commencement of the semester/term*
    3. After deducting 1 month's tuition fees or S$107.00, whichever is higher, if withdrawal is made within 14 days from the commencement of the semester/term*
    4. Fees are non-refundable for withdrawal after 2 weeks into the semester/term*

Registration for this course begins in early May and early November for the July and January intakes respectively. Please visit our website in end April and end October for enrolment details.

Enrolment Steps

  1. Contact the Junior Music Department via phone or email for any queries pertaining to admission or registration.
  2. Apply in-person with a copy of child’s birth certificate, a passport-sized photo and relevant certificates if any at Junior Music Department during registration period, which are in early May and early November.
  3. Payment for audition fee is to be made in cheque payable to "Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts".
  4. Upon successful registration, the child will be given a date/time to attend an audition usually in third week of May or November.
