Biography

Joyce joins Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts after many years of experience in academia and arts management. She has previously led the Diploma in Arts and Theatre Management programme at Republic Polytechnic and the Diploma in Arts Management programme at LASALLE College of the Arts. She was also one of the pioneer staff of The Esplanade Co. Ltd. when it was the Singapore Arts Centre Company.

In addition to being a dedicated educator, Joyce is a passionate musician, composer, researcher and ethnomusicologist. Best known for her efforts in developing interest in Gamelan and Asian Music among Singaporeans and abroad, Joyce has been invited to compose for dance, theatre, film and other events. She has also been invited to teach gamelan in universities in Australia and Thailand.

Joyce has composed, directed and performed at various local and international festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (twice), Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival (thrice), Singapore Arts Festival and the opening festivals of The Esplanade and The Arts House.

Joyce is currently advisor and mentor to BronzAge Gamelan Ensemble and external assessor for the National Arts Council.
