The newly-reopened Bencoolen Street now has narrowed car lanes, widened sidewalks and new bicycle paths. Last month, the road also became home to six benches designed by students and alumni of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, turning the shared public space into an outdoor “living room”. This project is a collaboration between NAFA, LTA and the URA’s “Our Favourite Place” program, to enhance Singapore’s streets and encourage the public to enjoy the outdoors. NAFA held a design competition from July to November last year. Out of 26 entries, six benches have been chosen and installed along the street.
