The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) is proud to present “Acquisitions: Building the NAFA Collection”, an exhibition of artworks by established artists, including illustrious NAFA alumni, contemporary artists in Singapore and the region.  From 24 October to 3 December 2017, visitors would be able to appreciate over 40 artworks of a wide range of mediums including print, drawing, painting, assembly and collage, wood carving, wax and ceramic.

“Acquisitions” demonstrates the breadth of works acquired by NAFA in the past six years.  They include works from luminary artists and distinguished alumni such as 12 Apostles by Boo Sze Yang, Thinking Baby by Syamil Dasuki, Fort Canning by Lee Hock Moh and Breakthrough by Chieu Shuey Fook. Many of them are award-winning artists who have contributed to the Singapore art scene for decades as well as most recently. These works add value to the scholarship and study of NAFA’s heritage, artistic legacies as well as contemporary practices.

The NAFA Collection started in the late 90s, and has been enriched through donations by both iconic artists and alumni members over the years.  With over 1,000 objects in its grasp, the NAFA Collection is selectively drawn down to present rotating exhibitions that reflect not only NAFA’s historic role as an arts educator, but also the academy’s success in producing generations of influential artists and arts educators who were and continue to be, pioneers in their respective fields and genres. The active status of the collection and carefully pursued acquisitions also reflect the academy’s commitment to advance the knowledge and appreciation of art, through research, exhibitions and publications.
