Scholarships, Merit Awards and Bursaries for AY2012/2013 - (For New Diploma Students)

The following Scholarships, Merit Awards and Bursaries are offered by NAFA to new Diploma students for the Academic Year of 2012/2013.

Scholarships (For New Diploma Students)
Academic Scholarships are awarded to students who possess excellent academic records and have an excellent track record of achievements in the arts industry. (E.g. Won prizes in international/ regional art-related competitions, excellent secondary/ high school results). These are prestigious awards and are given out only to top students who have done exceptionally well during the entrance test/ audition. Scholarships administered by NAFA usually do not carry any obligation of bond unless otherwise stated.

Ngee Ann Kongsi Entry Scholarship (Diploma)
Criteria: New full-time SIN/SPR diploma students. SPRs must be eligible for and agree to sign the Tuition Grant Deed (TGD).
Excellent academic performance/ track records in the Arts
Excellent entrance test/ audition results
Nationality: Singaporean (SIN) / Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR)
Quantum: S$6,000 or waiver of tuition fees, whichever is lower


Lee Foundation Entry Scholarship (Diploma)
Criteria: New full-time diploma students. SPRs and International students must be eligible for and agree to sign the Tuition Grant Deed (TGD).
Excellent academic performance / track records in the Arts
Excellent entrance test / audition results
Nationality: All nationalities
Quantum: S$6,000 or waiver of tuition fees, whichever is lower


Tan Chay Bing Entry Scholarship (Diploma)
Criteria: New full-time diploma students
Excellent academic performance / track records in the Arts
Excellent entrance / audition test results
Financially needy. Gross monthly household per capita income not exceeding S$2,000
Nationality: All nationalities
Quantum: S$4,000


Merit Awards (For New Diploma Students)
Merit Awards are given to students who have performed well academically and have some track record of achievements in the arts industry. (E.g. Won prizes in local art-related competitions, good secondary/ high school results). These awards are aimed to recognize the student's achievements academically and in the arts industry, and are given to students who have done well during the entrance test/ audition.

Ngee Ann Kongsi Entry Merit Award (Diploma)
Criteria: New full-time SIN/SPR diploma students. SPRs must be eligible for and agree to sign the Tuition Grant Deed (TGD).
Good academic performance
Good entrance test/audition results
Nationality: Singaporean (SIN) / Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR)
Quantum: S$3,000


NAFA Entry ASEAN Grant (Diploma)
Criteria: New full-time diploma students who are citizens of ASEAN countries, except Singapore
Students must be eligible for and agree to sign the Tuition Grant Deed.
Good academic performance
Good entrance test/ audition results
Nationality: Citizens of ASEAN countries, except Singapore (i.e. Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam)
Quantum: S$3,000


NAFA Entry Merit Award (Diploma)
Criteria: New full-time diploma students
Students must be eligible for Tuition Grant. SPRs and International students must agree to sign the Tuition Grant Deed (TGD).
Good academic performance
Good entrance test / audition test results
Nationality: All nationalities
Quantum: S$3,000


Bursaries (For New Diploma Students)
Bursaries are awarded to students who are financially needy (based on household income). Although financial need is a criterion, satisfactory entrance test/ audition result is also a pre-requisite for selection.

Lee Foundation Entry Bursary (Diploma)
Criteria: New full-time diploma students. Students must be eligible for Tuition Grant. SPRs and Int’l students must agree to sign the Tuition Grant Deed (TGD).
Satisfactory academic performance/ track records in the Arts
Satisfactory entrance test/audition results
Financially needy. Gross monthly household per capita income not exceeding S$1,700
Nationality: All nationalities
Quantum: S$1,500


Tan Chay Bing Entry Bursary (Diploma)
Criteria: New full-time diploma students
Satisfactory academic performance / track records in the Arts
Satisfactory entrance / audition test results
Financially needy. Gross monthly household per capita income not exceeding S$1,700
Nationality: All nationalities
Quantum: S$1,500


Awards by HOD’s Recommendation

1. Talent & Discovery Scholarships (By HOD recommendation; not for application)

Talent & Discovery Scholarships are awarded to new Diploma students who possess outstanding artistic qualities in their discipline of study and have an excellent track record of achievements in the arts industry as evidenced by letters of recommendation from his/her home country institutions, respected bodies or recognised industry players. The recipients of these prestigious awards are recommended by the respective Heads of Department or Lecturers during the entrance test / audition / interview.

Note: The following Scholarships are not open for application and is strictly by recommendation by Heads of Department and Lecturers during entrance test / audition / interview only.

The list of Talent & Discovery Scholarships is as follows:

  • Lee Foundation Talent Scholarship
  • - Full waiver of tuition fee, plus monthly allowance of S$800
    - Renewable yearly upon meeting the minimum academic performance of Year GPA 3.3

  • NAFA Talent Scholarship
  • - Full waiver of tuition fee
    - Renewable yearly upon meeting the minimum academic performance of Year GPA 3.0

  • NAFA Discovery Scholarship
  • - Full waiver of tuition fee, plus monthly allowance of S$800
    - Renewable yearly upon meeting the minimum academic performance of Year GPA 3.0

2. Tan Ngiang Kaw Music Merit Award (By HOD recommendation; not for application)

The Tan Ngiang Kaw Music Merit Award is awarded to a new Diploma student from the Department of Music, majoring in Vocal Studies who possess good artistic potential. The recipient of the Merit Award is recommended by the Head of Department or Lecturers during the audition and would be awarded a sum of S$2000 to pay for his/her tuition fees in that academic year.

Note: The above merit award is not open for application and is strictly by recommendation by Head of Music Department and Lecturers during audition only.

Renewal Conditions: Renewable yearly with min. Year GPA of 3.0


Ngee Ann Kongsi Scholarship (Diploma)
Criteria: Existing full-time SIN/SPR diploma students. SPRs must have signed the Tuition Grant Deed (TGD).
Excellent academic performance / track records in the Arts (min. Year GPA of 3.0)
Nationality: Singaporean (SIN) / Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR)
Quantum: S$6,000 or waiver of tuition fees, whichever is lower

Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Scholarship (Diploma)
Criteria: Existing full-time SIN/SPR diploma students. SPRs must have signed the Tuition Grant Deed (TGD).
Excellent academic performance / track records in the Arts (min. Year GPA of 3.0)
Nationality: Singaporean (SIN) / Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR)
Quantum: S$6,000 or waiver of tuition fees, whichever is lower


Tan Chin Tuan Scholarship for Creative Education (Diploma Studies)
Criteria: Existing full-time diploma students
Excellent academic performance (min. Year GPA of 3.0)
Outstanding artistic talents and industrial achievements in the Arts (eg. Public performances)
Financially needy with gross monthly household per capita income not exceeding $1,700
Able to perform a minimum of 10 hours of community work during the award year
Nationality: All nationalities
Quantum: S$4,000


Tan Chay Bing Scholarship (Diploma)
Criteria: Existing full-time diploma students
Excellent academic performance/ track records in the Arts (min. Year GPA of 3.0)
Financially needy. Gross monthly household per capita income not exceeding $2,000
Nationality: All nationalities
Quantum: S$4,000


The Mill Scholarship for Interior Design (Diploma)
Criteria: Existing full-time SIN/SPR diploma student eligible for Tuition Grant
Must be a third year student from the Department of 3D Design (major in Interior Design) in AY2012/2013.
Excellent academic performance / track records in the Arts (min. Year GPA of 3.0)
Nationality: Singaporean (SIN) / Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR)
Quantum: S$4,000


Merit Awards (For Existing Diploma Students)
Merit Awards are given to students who have performed well academically and have some track record of achievements in the arts industry. (E.g. Won prizes in local art-related competitions). These awards are aimed to recognize the student's achievements academically and in the arts industry. The award will be considered for students who score a minimum academic performance of Year GPA 2.5 in the AY2011/2012 NAFA examinations.

Tan Chin Tuan Merit Award (Diploma)
Criteria: Existing full-time diploma students
Good academic performance (min. Year GPA of 2.5)
Good artistic talents and industrial achievements in the Arts (eg. Public performances)
Financially needy with gross monthly household per capita income not exceeding S$1,700
Able to perform a minimum of 10 hours of community work during the award year
Nationality: All nationalities
Quantum: S$4,000

Bursaries are awarded to students who are financially needy (based on household income). Although financial need is a criterion, satisfactory academic performance of a minimum Year GPA of 1.5 in the AY2011/2012 NAFA Examinations is also a pre-requisite for selection.

The following Scholarships, Merit Awards and Bursaries are offered by NAFA to Degree students for the Academic Year of 2012/2013.

These are prestigious awards and are given out only to top students who score a minimum academic performance of CGPA 3.0 for NAFA Diploma graduates or the equivalent for non-NAFA Diploma graduates. Scholarships administered by NAFA usually do not carry any obligation of bond unless otherwise stated.

The criteria to qualify for a Merit Award is CGPA 2.50 for NAFA Diploma graduates or the equivalent for non-NAFA Diploma graduates.

Bursaries (For Degree Students)
Bursaries are awarded to students who are financially needy (based on household income). Although financial need is a criterion, satisfactory academic performance of a minimum CGPA of 1.50 for NAFA Diploma graduates or the equivalent for non-NAFA Diploma graduates is also a pre-requisite for selection.
