General Requirements
  • All applicants are required to sit for the NAFA Admission Test/Audition.
  • Applicants unable to furnish documentary evidences showing that they have met the English proficiency requirement as stipulated in Section 2.3 below are required to sit for the NAFA English Admission Test.

Selection Criteria
Admissions are based primarily on applicants' scores in the NAFA Admission Test/Audition, educational qualifications and English proficiency. Special consideration may be given to applicants who marginally fail to meet some of the requirements but fare well in the NAFA Admission Test/Audition.
2.1  The NAFA Admission Test/Audition
Passing Admission Test/Audition is a necessary condition for admission
2.2  Educational Qualification
  • The general requirement is 4 credits Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level with at least grade-C6 or better, excluding English Language, or
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or Certificate, or
  • Relevant Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Nitec qualifications listed in Section 4
2.3  English Proficiency
The requirement for admission to all NAFA diploma courses, except the Diploma in Dance and the Diploma in Theatre (Mandarin Drama), is

  • Grade C6 or better in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level English Language, or
  • TOEFL 500 or better, or
  • IELTS Band 5 or higher, or
  • Pass in NAFA English Admission Test, or
  • Qualifications equivalent to any of the above

The requirement for admission to the Diploma in Dance or the Diploma in Theatre (Mandarin Drama) is

  • Grade D7 or better in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level English Language, or
  • TOEFL 400 or better, or
  • IELTS Band 4 or higher, or
  • Pass in NAFA English Admission Test
2.4   Professional Qualification (applicable only for Diploma in Music Performance and Diploma in Music Teaching)
In addition to above educational and English proficiency qualifications, applicants are required to have achieved ABRSM Grade V in theory or the equivalent.

During the Admission Audition, applicants are expected to perform two contrasting works, scales and aural tests (standard equivalent to ABRSM Grade VIII) on their intended principal study.
2.5  Age Requirement (applicable only for Diploma in Dance)
Preferably 16 to 25 years old
2.6  Conditional Admission
Applicants who pass the NAFA Admission Test/Audition but fail the NAFA English Admission Test marginally may be offered conditional admission. To qualify for conditional admission, applicants must complete the 120-hour NAFA in-house English course successfully by the end of their first year. Failing which, their study in NAFA will be terminated.

Module Exemption
  • Exemption of a NAFA diploma module may be granted to new students who have, prior to being admitted to NAFA, taken and passed identical or equivalent module(s) in another institution.
  • The granting of exemption may be subject to passing a portfolio interview, audition or test.
  • No more than 60 modular credits can be exempted for any student.
  • Applicants must submit their applications for module exemption together with their applications for admission.

Fast Track for GCE ‘A’ Level and IB Diploma Students
  • Applicants with GCE ‘A’ Level or International Baccalaureate Diploma or its equivalent attained from institutions in Singapore will be eligible for up to 40 credits of module exemption. This would allow the applicants to complete their diploma studies in approximately 2 years. Granting of admission is subject to the applicants’ academic results, successful portfolio interview and admission test or audition.

Requirements for applicants with Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Nitec/Higher Nitec qualifications
5.1  For Diploma in 3D Design, ITE graduates in any discipline with GPA 2.5 and above may apply. ITE graduates from the following courses are eligible to apply for module exemption:
  • Nitec in Product Design
  • Nitec in Facility Technology (Landscaping)
  • Nitec in Building Drafting (Civil & Structure)
  • Nitec in Space Design (Architecture)
  • Nitec in Space Design (Interior & Exhibition)
  • Higher Nitec in Visual Merchandising
  • Nitec in Visual Communication
  • Nitec in Interactive Media Design
  • Nitec in Visual Effects
5.2  For Diploma in Arts Management, ITE graduates in any discipline with GPA 2.5 and above may apply. ITE graduates from the following course are eligible to apply for module exemption:
  • Higher Nitec in Business Studies (Administration)
5.3  For Diploma in Design and Media, only ITE graduates from the following courses with GPA 2.5 and above can apply for the admission tests:
  • Higher Nitec in Games Design & Development
  • Nitec in Digital Animation
  • Nitec in Digital Media Design (Interactive Media)
  • Nitec in Digital Media Design (Digital Video Effects)
  • Nitec in Visual Effects
  • Nitec in Interactive Media Design
  • Nitec in Visual Communication
  • Nitec in Digital Audio & Video Production
  • Nitec in Multimedia Technology

ITE graduates from the following courses are eligible to apply for module exemption:

  • Nitec in Digital Animation
  • Nitec in Digital Media Design (Interactive Media)
  • Nitec in Digital Media Design (Digital Video Effects)
  • Nitec in Visual Effects
  • Nitec in Interactive Media Design
  • Nitec in Visual Communication
  • Nitec in Digital Audio & Video Production
5.4  For Diploma in Dance, Diploma in Fine Art, Diploma in Music Performance and Diploma in Theatre, ITE graduates in any discipline with GPA 2.0 and above may apply.
