Diploma in Theatre
This three-year full-time course is a purely performance-based programme. The core of this vocational training curriculum is actor-training with four fundamental components of Acting, Body & Movement, Voice & Speech and Singing, progressively structured within the total of six semesters. Students may choose to specialise in either Mandarin Drama or English Drama acting.
In addition to these acting-related modules, students will undertake a core module series of Production that spans the areas of Stage & Production Management, Lighting, Performance Design, Sound Design as well as Theatre Makeup and Hairstyling & Theatre Wigs.
The curriculum also consists of the supporting and elective module series in the areas of playmaking, dramaturgy and production, introduction to screen productions as well as theatre education in school, etc.
This focused training programme with diversified module specialisations provides myriad opportunities for students to develop a broader range of solid theatre-making skills. As young theatre-makers of the 21st Century, students need to adapt yourself to a variety of performance environments and this course is tailored to suit the growing demands of this exciting and dynamic trend.
More importantly, this course draws upon the unique location and history of Singapore and its rich traditions of cultural diversity. Students will get the opportunity to study theatre that is influenced by Asian, Southeast Asian and Western theatrical styles as well as gain an appreciation of their own individual cultural heritages that they can bring to the programme.
