Department of Fine Art
Challenge the now. Define the next.
“We want to stimulate creativity and responsible reflection about the world that the artists inhabit, and could possibly change. By revealing changing perceptions, fine art continues to assert its importance in contemporary society.”
Tan Ngeup Khun
Head of Department
Art today is expressed beyond the traditional disciplines of painting, drawing and sculpture. We are here to give you a clear direction of what making art is like in today’s context, while offering you the guidance to discover your own voice. We foster your personal artistic growth and independent learning while giving you room to challenge the notions of what art can be.
The diploma offered in the Department of Fine Art gives you the leeway to experiment with ideas while enhancing your ability to think visually and critically. This comprehensive programme puts you on the forefront of both traditional and contemporary art practices. As you begin to develop your individual professional practice as a contemporary artist, you may choose to specialise in painting, Chinese ink painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography or printmaking.
Through research-based practice and experiential learning, you will be able to channel your energy towards spurring the arts development here and overseas.
We also bridge your entrance into the degree programme through seminars, critiques, field trips and work-in-progress exhibitions. To complement classroom-based learning, artists and cultural practitioners will give talks and conduct workshops - broadening your scope for further studies and giving you a clearer direction as an art practitioner.
